Iridescence

Did you know that the original image of Our Lady of Guadalupe is iridescent?

So despite the fact that photographs and copies of the image show the colors as static, the original appears to change colors depending on the distance and angle from which one views it.

So although there is sometimes artistic license taken in some examples, this helps to explain why there are many variations to the colors in different depictions of Our Lady.

Those who have gotten to see the image from within the vault at the basilica in Mexico City have also described a kind of shimmer or glow that is difficult to capture in photographs but is unique to seeing the image up close in person.
